New publication!

A new paper co-authored by Alberto has just been published in Environmental Science & Technology. This work, developed in collaboration with Wenqiao Jiao, former PhD in MIPORE group, and Pietro de Anna’s group at the University of Lausanne, shows how biofilm spatial organization controls permeability decline in porous media.

By combining microfluidic experiments with mathematical modeling, the study demonstrates that representing the medium as a series of pores with different sizes and biomass-modified permeability can accurately capture the observed dynamics.
